About fifteen miles away from the hustle and bustle of life in Cannes
there thrives a medieval village.
Its climate, ideal at any time of year, allows wild foliage, such
as prickly pear and aloe, to grow, spread throughout its surroundings.
It is not by coincidence that this town has come to be known as that
of "Violets"
The flower chose to put down its roots here over a century ago and
since then has given the land in exchange its culture, one of its
principal activities and many beautiful days.
As you wind your way through the ancient streets you will discover
the sculptural richness of the village.
You will marvel at the magnificence of its church.
The church of St Grégoire which dates from the 15th and 16th
centuries is indeed a treasure to behold.
Held tightly to its chest, the church keeps, behind its alter, a stele
votive dedicated to the planet Mercury. It also possesses a carved
wainscoting, which could very well be by J. Bellot, creator of the
"Stalles of Vence".
Just as interesting is the chapel of St Jean, situated on the road
of the same name.
Adorned with naïve portraits by artist R. Soupault (1959) the
chapel will stir your emotions.
It's during a visit to the numerous archaeological sites that you
will discover to your surprise the highlight of your visit, by going
to marvel at Pie Lombard. It still remains today of the oldest burial
sites ever discovered in Europe, dating back to more than 300.000
years BC.
Asides from its architectural and historical treasures, this Violet
city offers its visitors an abundance of high quality arts and crafts
At the heart of the old village, in the many galleries and studios
the best artists and craftsmen gather to thrill the "Fans"
with works of all kinds.
