  Isola 2000

Why not come and share the joys of one of the most prestigious ski resorts in the Maritime Alps, just 1 ½ hour's car journey from Cannes. Isola boasts over 120 kilometres of piste, 23 mechanical ski-lifts and 50 completely new pistes, where snow and sun and consequently the enjoyment of the visitor, are guaranteed. It is however also and perhaps more importantly one of the most pleasant summer resorts, where eclecticism of leisure and culture cannot fail to please even the most disenchanted.

It's a great opportunity to come and relax at the heart of a luxuriant and green area, situated ideally right in the middle of the national parks, Mercantour and Argentera. All sorts of activities are offered and you can come and enjoy a tour of a country specialised in the art of relaxation. By taking the VVT along the tracks marked by buoys, you will discover the magnificence of the peaks of the nearby mountains. On a horse or on a pony you will be able to appreciate the richness of the fauna and the flora of the mountain, whose air is pure and natural. A trip to the equitation centre will enable you to experience, at all levels, the lakes high up in the mountains, as you gallop through the most unforgettable "Sentiers" in the world.

Challenging and exciting sports are also available at the resort, from trampoline to bungee jumping, not to mention the chance to receive a diploma from the aero-centre. La promenade, not to be missed under any circumstances, remains undoubtedly that of the resort, a real Austrian caleche. A climbing wall allows you to investigate the varappe. There is also an open air swimming pool, which is heated for even greater comfort. On a course of 18 holes, 5035by 70, you can drive and put to your heart's content and on a complex of a 9 tennis courts you can perfect your forehand and backhand, under the guidance of well-trained coaches. There are many others activities available to the visitors in a place where leisure is the byword. Above all Isola embodies the mountain and the riches found in a region unspoilt by pollution.

Asides from hiking, nature trails are also offered as an introduction to the botany and geology of this paradise. Last but not least, canyoning, via ferrata and climbing are taught by a competent team, allowing you to learn or perfect techniques.

Isola is also a village situated
at an altitude of 870 metres, 17kilometres from the resort. Come and discover the charm of this picturesque village, whose inhabitants are proudly routed in their traditions and culture.

Haut lieu Castanéicole. Every year Isola celebrates the chestnut in the month of November, the celebration is always very successful with a turnout that never disappoints.

This small village has heritage which is out of the ordinary;

Its church (17th century baroque), built in the name of St Pierre, possesses no less than 6 alters, which have a sacred heart of Christ and one of devoted to the Virgin Mary.
It's bell, square alpine design dating from 12th century, is situated at the entrance to the village and is the last remaining trace of the former church of St Pierre, which was abandoned in the 16th century.
An incomparable religious richness is offered in the form of two chapels.
The first the Chapel of Ste Anne of the community of white repentant, dates back to 1465 and is today the property of the community who are still active. It was restored between 1818 and 1823, all of the paintings inside the church, like those of the ceilings remain on its own soil. There you can admire the rare religious objects, including a wooden statue if Ste Anne from the 14th century.
The second Chapel, that of St Roche, was established in the 16th century, for the purpose of exorcising an epidemic of the plague. It was restored in1877 and is characterised by a superb 12th century roof and an unusual alter (the grindstone of a windmill carved by hand). These special features make it a rare monument.

If you visit the village you will be surprised to find yourself in front of the communal washing-place, polished by the hands of the lavender pickers who washed there.
There are more than three centuries a la cendre. You will be able to taste the clarity of mineral water which flows smoothly. The communal oven is more than 9 centuries old. Through the detailed commentaries of the guides you will discover the secrets of the place where, until 1950, the people of Isola came to bake their bread.

A place of well being where one can back to one's routes, at the heart of a village where time stands still - Isola is all that.
